Our "Practice" Baby

Aaron turned 31 the week before Christmas. He has been BEGGING to get a dog for at least the last year and a half. I'm not much of a pet person, but I finally caved and suprised him with a Welsh Corgi puppy on his birthday. Aaron named him "Big Moe" after the giant fish in a fishing legend he made up for his nephews. Our house will never be the same.
If anyone is reading this, now would be a great time to purchase stock in Fabreeze. I use it constantly. If you ever come into my home and it remotely smells "puppy-like" please be blunt and let me know!! Since Moe has moved in, he has helped remove the sprinkler drip system we don't use, picks my flowers for me and reminds me to vacuum. He also makes us smile, gives us practice caring for someone other than ourselves and is cemented in our hearts as a family member.

That About Sums It Up...

I am currently 16 weeks pregnant and feeling so much better this week than I have felt in the last 2 months. In that time my house has gone to hell in a handbasket, because frankly - when you work full time, are tired as can be and feel puking, the last thing on your mind is washing dishes and vacuuming. I've got a whole mountain range of laundry that needs folding, and you can't see the floor of any bedroom in our house. When I comes to being messy, I'm quite an amazing girl. Now that I'm feeling great, this weekend I will be on the rampage putting my house back together. My dear husband has been very sweet and has not said a word about the house (Even though I know what he's thinking). Bless his heart. I guess I can start with how I ended up here...

Well, I'm the last one of my married friends to take the big leap and start a family. Being a born and raised Mormon girl, waiting over 4 years after marriage to have kids is pretty close to unheard of. Since I grew up flat broke, the last thing I wanted to do was get married, hurry and have a bunch of kids and be back where I started - flat broke. It is not fun, I do not recommend it.

Watching my friends with their kids was a real eye-opener for me. The insane amount of work that goes into raising a decent human being was more than I cared to deal with. My heart started to soften up when I was called so serve in the HUGE Ward Nursery. Last year we had an average of 17-23 kids every week, this year we started with 15 and will have about 30 by the end of the year. For most, this would be pure torture - for me it was and still is the best and most fun calling I've ever had. I come home with a lot of fun and sweet stories. I know it's only 2 hours a week, but I started thinking, "I think I can handle this!". Aaron still wasn't on board until his Grandmother and my Grandfather passed away within the same year. That got him thinking about how important family is. He actually called me up from work and told me he was ready - I don't think you could wipe the smile off of my face for a solid week.

We got pregnant on the first try, but I miscarried after 10 weeks (not an experience I would wish on anyone). It took us another 6 months to get pregnant the 2nd time. Aaron was getting frusterated and threatened to send over our brother-in-law who already had 2 kids and one on the way. Luckily for Aaron, his "stuff" works and we are well on our way to becoming parents. So, here we go!!
